Canada was once owned by England but won independence on July 1st, 1867. This day is known as Canada Day. There were also French colonies in Eastern Canada that are now known as the province Quebec. According to the CIA World Factbook, Canada is a "federal parliamentary democracy (Parliament of Canada) under a constitutional monarchy." There is an Executive branch, a Legislative branch, and a Judicial branch. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth ll, and the head of government is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. There is a Parliament that consists of the Senate in the Legislative branch. There is also the Supreme Court of Canada in the Judicial branch.
